BOYS DO CRY

Ellen McDermott & Asher Tessier

Too often, mainstream media depicts transgender people from a scope focusing on grieving rather than celebration. With this work, we wanted to provide a more holistic perspective- focusing both on losses and gains, and ultimately being an intimate and celebratory piece. After speaking with Alexander, Jack, and Asher, the immense, positive influence that Los Angeles had on their growth became clear. The city provided a sense of acceptance which was not present at their hometowns, and therefore Asher and I wanted to keep L.A as a heartbeat to our visual narrative.
